Immanuel Baptist Church Membership covenant

"Having received Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior, and having been baptized, I express my desire to join the Immanuel Baptist Church family. Having been led by the Holy Spirit, I commit myself to upholding Immanuel's statement of faith, values, and vision. I also commit before God and the membership of Immanuel to uphold the following:

1) I Will Protect the Unity of my church acting in love toward other members
...BY refusing to gossip
...BY following church leadership
"May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus," (romans 15:5)
"Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear." (ephesians 4:29)
"Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you." (Hebrews 13:17)

2) I Will Share in the responsibility of my church praying for the church inviting the unchurched to attend my church warmly welcoming those who visit
"We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers," (1 Thessalonians 1:2)
"And the master said to the servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled." (Luke 14:23)
"Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God." (Romans 15:7)

3) I Will Serve the ministry of my church discovering my gifts and talents being equipped to serve by my pastors developing a servant's heart
"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace:" (1 Peter 4:10)
"And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ," (Ephesians 4:11-12)
"Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men." (Philippians 2:3-7)

4) I will Support the testimony of my church

...BY attending faithfully
...BY living a godly life
...BY giving regularly

"Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel," (philippians 1:27)
" On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come." (1 corinthians 16:2)
“Every tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is the Lord's; it is holy to the Lord." (leviticus 27:30)

5) I will Grow with the help of the church

...BY actively pursuing growth in my relationship with God
...BY maintaining healthy spiritual disciplines
...attending a small group

"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen." (2 peter 3:18)
"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." (Hebrews 10:24-25)
"Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name. And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus." (Acts 5:41-42)
